  1. The Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) has now been published in the Federal Register. The application/RFP is now available. The deadline is July 19. NASPE put together a list of resources and grant writing tips for your PEP grant proposal.
  2. Share your comments!Member reviewers needed for the document Guidelines for Teaching Undergraduate History of PE and Sport in a Physical Education Teacher Education ProgramView the document and send your comments/feedback to rlanders@aahperd.org by July 15, 2010.
  3. Stay active over the summer! Check out the Teacher Toolbox and the Physical Activity Calendars for June, July and August.
  4. Change in ADOY Awards. The Athletic Director of the Year program will no longer function using a state/district/national level system. NASPE’s Athletic Director of the Year award is now a national level award.
    Applications for the Athletic Director of the Year are due on October 15th
  5. JCE Call for Manuscripts.The Journal of Coaching Education is now accepting manuscript submissions for publication in its December 2010 and April 2011 issues.  Go to www.journalofcoachingeducation.org for details.

 Let’s Move in School - News Affecting the Nation

  • The U.S. Department of Education is pleased to announce the Notice of Final Priorities (NFP) and the Notice Inviting Applicants (NIA) for the Carol M White Physical Education Program (PEP) grants. The application period is very short with a deadline of July 19, 2010 to submit PEP grant submissions. Submissions must be done electronically this year.

Little Time for Physical Activity in Elementary Schools
A new study shows major changes are needed to support healthy eating and physical activity in U.S. Elementary Schools. In the report, School Policies and Practices to Improve Health and Prevent Obesity: National Elementary School Survey Results, released June 8 from Bridging the Gap and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, evidence shows that very few public elementary school students had the opportunity to get enough physical activity to satisfy the minimum recommendations set by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (USDHHS) or the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE).
