Like any large professional organization, MNAHPERD is governed by willing state professionals who are elected by the members of the organization. Governing positions include the president, president-elect, immediate past president, secretary, and treasurer, all of whom make up the executive committee along with the executive director, who does not have voting privileges although he or she is an integral member of the executive committee.
The executive committee along with other elected personnel consisting of all the vice presidents of the eight divisions (Aquatic, Dance, Developmental Adapted Physical Education, Future Professionals, Health, Higher Education, Physical Education, Recreation and Sport) plus the one state regional representatives and one Jump Rope for Heart/Hoops for Heart representative make up the MNAHPERD Board of Directors. This group of individuals makes well-thought-out decisions for the organization as related to the mission and goals of MNAHPERD.
In addition to the previously mentioned committees, 12 standing committees have been established to help distribute the workload of the organization. These include but are not limited to the State Convention Planning Committee, Archives/Necrology Committee, By-Laws Committee, Finance Committee, Foundations Committee, Legislative Committee, Membership Committee, Nominations Committee, Public Relations Committee, Recognition/Awards Committee, Retirees Committee, and Professional Development Projects Committee. In addition, ad hoc committees may be established for short periods to address matters of a specific nature relative to the organization.
MNAHPERD also has several positions established as coordinators whose responsibility it is to coordinate respective interest areas of future professionals, Jump Rope for Heart, Hoops for Heart, newsletter editor, Physical Best, state conference exhibts, MNAHPERD ListServ, and the MNAHPERD Web site.
