As
incoming MNAHPERD president I can’t help but reflect on the
tremendous changes that have taken place in our profession.
If the last four decades have demonstrated anything it is
that change is constant and with change come challenges and
opportunities. As our population grows (heavier and heavier)
and the academic emphasis is on test scores, our importance
as educators has become more vital to our students and our
schools.
It still amazes me that despite
mounting evidence demonstrating the essential role of
Physical Education in obesity reduction, its role in
promoting fitness, and fitness’ proven track record in
elevating academic performance our profession is still being
marginalized by decision makers at all levels. To change
this we must be proactive.
My goal is to see our organization grow in size and
strength. It is my aim to make our best advertising the
great teachers in the state. MNAHPERD is set to expand our
professional support through annual regional workshops, a
vibrant state convention featuring our best and brightest as
presenters, advocacy tools easily accessible to members, and
communication that keeps our membership plugged in. Have a
great year and I hope to see you at one of our workshops and
the convention in 2013.
